The ICT journey in school is taking shape over the summer. We deployed over 100 staff devices, and have nearly 400 student devices to use in September. However, to compliment this we have taken our old devices that were new(ish), and set up a small network in the school to make use of the maximum number of devices possible.

These have been set to log straight onto the internet and the managed service website. Here students can then up/down load docs to their school ‘area’. This means that they will have access to their work from any web device, and makes the old devices quite valuable in reducing the ratio (though only slightly!).

I do have some concerns for the start of the new academic year;

  • How well will the devices be used?
  • Will the legacy network work as planned?
  • Will problems be dealt with in a timely manner?

Time will tell.
